What is reverse osmosis?β
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that uses a special membrane with tiny holes to filter out contaminants. Using high pressure, water molecules are forced through this membrane, while larger impurities are left behind. In essence, reverse osmosis acts like a microscopic strainer, allowing only pure water molecules to pass through. This method effectively removes up to 99.9% of bacteria, chemicals, and heavy metals from water, which is why it is often considered the gold standard in water purification.
Reverse osmosis systems produce cleaner, better-tasting water and can be cost-effective compared to buying bottled water.
Has the CP-16 been third-party tested?β
Yes, the CP-16 has been third-party tested according to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 & 58 standards.
Reports can be found here.
Should I be concerned about microplastics if the pitcher is made of plastic?
While plastics can break down into microplastics over time, this process is usually triggered by prolonged exposure to high heat, chemicals, or significant wear and tear. Softer plastics, like those used in disposable water bottles, are more prone to shedding microplastics.
CovePure’s pitcher is made from thick, BPA/BPF/BPS-free plastic called styrene acrylonitrile, which was specifically chosen for its resistance to household chemicals such as dishwasher detergent. It also offers excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength, ensuring durability and further minimizing the risk of microplastic shedding.
Additionally, it’s lightweight, making the pitcher easier to lift, pour, and clean without compromising stability. CovePure has been rigorously tested by third-party labs to meet NSF/ANSI standards for chemicals like BPA and PFAs — contaminants often linked to microplastic concerns. It’s certified to remove over 99% of these substances, ensuring safe and clean drinking water.
Full test reports are available here for reference.
What are the dimensions of the model?β
16.54 x 9.13 x 16.54 inches
How often do filters need to be replaced?
Filter life varies depending on the quality of your water and how much you use the system. Please refer below for a rough guide:
Below 300 TDS
• PCB Filter: 6 months
• RO Filter: 24 months
300-800 TDS
• PCB Filter: 4.5 months
• RO Filter: 18 months
Above 800 TDS
• PCB Filter: 3 months
• RO Filter: 12 months
How cold/hot can the water get?
The system dispenses water from 50°F all the way up to 212°F, with the ability to select temperatures in between.
How quickly does the system heat or cool water?
It takes just 3 seconds to heat water, and roughly 20 minutes to cool the entire 0.5L internal cold water storage tank.
Note: that as long as the system is plugged in, it will continue to replenish cold water as needed. While cooling water, you’ll see a “Cooling” alert on-screen. Cold water may still be dispensed during this time, however water may not be as cold as when fully chilled.
Can I fill the system with any type of water?
No, the system is only compatible with municipal water sources or pre-treated well water.
If you are unsure about your water’s compatibility, please reach out to us for assistance!
Why does the system recirculate waste water?
The system recirculates a small amount of waste water with every purification cycle. This is designed for maximum efficiency so that you don’t need to refill the machine as often.
The wastewater will continue to go through our 4-stage purification system, so you can rest assured that your water is clean, and safe to drink.
Is the system noisy?
You’ll hear some noise coming from the system while it’s purifying water, as well as a moderate-level fan noise when it’s cooling water to replenish its cold water reservoir.
Please note, when you use the system for the first time, the cooling process may take slightly longer as the system chills the entire 0.5L tank. After the initial cooling, the system will operate more efficiently, only chilling the amount of water you dispense each time.
Outside of those two times, you won’t hear any noise at all!
How large is the water tank?
The CP-16 has an external water tank of 5L, internal cold water tank of 0.5L, and external pure water pitcher of 1.8L.
Does CovePure work with 220V electric outlets?
No, CovePure currently only works with 110V outlets.
Can I switch to metric units for measurements?
Currently, the CP-16 only supports imperial units. Fahrenheit for temperature and fluid ounces for water volume.
How much water can the pitcher hold?
The pitcher can hold 1.8L of water.
How do I set up the machine?
Please watch this quick set up video for instructions on how to set up your machine.
How do I refill the system with water?
The system will alert you whenever it’s time for a refill. The whole process should take no more than 1-2 minutes.
Step 1: Remove the tank lid.
Step 2: Grab the handle on the tank and gently lift to detach the tank from the system.
Step 3: Discard the waste water into the sink.
Step 4: Once empty, fill the tank with tap water up to the “max fill” line.
Step 5: Place the tank back into the system and cover with the lid.
How do I set my custom cup size?
Step 1: Hold the “custom” icon for 3 seconds.
Step 2: Use the “+” or “-” icons to select your desired amount.
Step 3: Press the “custom” icon once to save your selection.
Going forward, every time you select “custom”, the system will dispense the amount you selected.
How do I set my default temperatures for hot and warm water?
By default, the system dispenses warm water at 113°F and hot water at 212°F. To change the default temperature:
Step 1: Hold the “hot” or “warm” icon for 3 seconds.
Step 2: Use the “+” or “-” icons to select your desired temperature.
Step 3: Press either the “hot” or “warm” icon once to save your selection.
Going forward, every time you select ‘hot’ or ‘warm’ the system will dispense water at that temperature.
Why is my Pure TDS reading so high?
While TDS is a good basic measurement of water quality, it doesn’t paint the full picture. TDS simply refers to the number of dissolved solids in the water that are not H2O molecules, and does not measure solid contaminants in your water like heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc.
It’s important to remember that not all dissolved solids are bad. CovePure’s reverse osmosis technology removes up to 99.9% of harmful contaminants, while allowing certain dissolved solids, like minerals, to still pass through.
In fact, during the last stage of filtration, our alkaline filter returns beneficial trace minerals like calcium and magnesium back into the water – providing you with balanced, healthy drinking water. This can increase the amount of TDS in your water, but is, in fact, a good thing!
Note: If you are using an external TDS meter to measure your water, you may notice your TDS levels are slightly higher than what is shown on the system due to the above.
What is the difference between Raw TDS and Pure TDS?
TDS stands for total dissolved solids in your water and is a measure of the water’s purity. This number is measured in parts per million (ppm). So for example, if your TDS reading says 10, that means for every 1 million particles of water, there are 10 dissolved solids.
Raw TDS refers to the TDS of the water you are filling the system with. Pure TDS refers to the TDS of the water that is being dispensed from the system or pitcher.
When you see on your CovePure system that Pure TDS is much lower than Raw TDS, it means that the filtration is working!
Why do I need to unlock the machine every time I dispense hot or warm water?
This is a built-in child safety feature to prevent any scalding or accidents.
How do I replace the filters?
Please refer to our How to Replace Your Filters guide here!
How do I reset my filter life after changing my filter?
Step 1: Press and hold the “custom” and “16oz” buttons for 5 seconds.
Step 2: Press “custom” to choose the filter you are replacing (PCB or RO will flash on-screen).
Step 3: Hold “custom” and “16oz” again for 5 seconds to save your selection.
Filter life will now be reset to 100% for the filter you’ve chosen.
For a detailed guide on how to replace your filters, please refer to How to Replace Your Filters.
